TMZ has learned that 2006 Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger has died in NY.
He was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3:35 PM ET today. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they believe it was not a crime, adding prescription pills were found near his body.
The 28-year-old actor has a two year old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams -- they separated in September, 2007. He plays The Joker in the upcoming Batman film, "The Dark Knight."
According to NYPD a masseuse arrived at Ledger's apartment and was let in by a housekeeper. When Ledger didn't answer his bedroom door, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened it and found him unconscious. They attempted to wake him; when they couldn't, they called 911.
We're told when paramedics responded, the actor was in full cardiac arrest. They attempted to perform CPR on him, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ledger is best known for his groundbreaking role as Ennis in "Brokeback Mountain."

Heath Ledger, a 2006 Academy Award nominee for his role in Brokeback Mountain, on Tuesday afternoon was found dead at a New York apartment which the New York Times reports is owned by Mary-Kate Olsen, who police sources say they believe is in California.
According to the paper, Ledger was found in his bed by a housekeeper after she went to wake him when his masseuse arrived. She and the masseuse entered his room together, found the actor unconscious, and called the authorities immediately. Law enforcement sources at this point believe it was not a crime.
Ledger, 28, had a daughter in 2005 with actress Michelle Williams. The couple reportedly lived in Brooklyn together until they separated last year. — Anna Dimond

people can say what you want about drugs.... if it wasnt drugs it would be something else. .... when someone wants to die bad enough they will find a way.
from everything i read on this so far it sounds like dude had a break down and over dosed.
if it was just some accidental bad mixture or something it might be different ... but this just sounds like a dude that had problems and decided he didnt wanna deal with it anymore.
dont blame it on the pills ...blame it on the dude.
I tried to off myself with pills before ... i wasn't a drug addict or anything ... they were just there and i knew that when mixed with alcohol sleeping death was a possibility . I had some fucking problems then ... shit i didnt wanna deal with . I still have problems ...
I wasn't so sure about death being the right solution so i tried to go out like a pussy . If i was dedicated to my decision i woulda found something i couldn't have got out of like jumpin off a fucking building.
point i'm tryin to make is people are all like ...blah blah blah drugs druggie blah blah ... thats not really the problem... the problem is the man himself... and whatever issues he has with life.
So unless they find this to be an accidental death which i doubt will happen .... I stand by what I say here.
also ...keep in mind that sometimes loads of money and fame and good looks don't solve all of your problems ...

possible accident but i dont think it has to do with joker since that was already shot and in post production.
I guess we'll know when they release more info.
Him and his girl from Dawsons Creek split up late last year he might have been a mess over that .... Who knows man.
So far they've said that there were pills scattered all through out the room ... that doesnt really sound good .

yeah my friends in chicago said the same shit .... this seems alot like that death other than the cause of being pills rather than a gun shot.
I'm not sure what to think about whether it was accident or not with ledger ... seems it ... i mean dude was right in the middle of making another film and DK is comin out soon ... time will tell i guess.

The Dark Knight made him lose sleep, sanity, and his mind. Before shooting ever began he locked himself in a hotel room for weeks diving into character and insanity. Its hard to get off of sleeping pills when you think the only way you can sleep is by taking them. Insomnia patients aren't prescribed sleeping pills nor told to use them because of possibility of death and overdosing. The use and addiction caused by the stress and anxiety over his character The Joker in TDK never stopped or ceased after shooting. This is his most probable reason of death. Thank You

i agree with you 100%. ive been following the filming of this movie on a daily basis... yah im a lame ass. lol but i think what he did to become the joker and the eventual outcome of his character are the shit. so i mean to go so far as to put your life on the line for a role is awesome. i know others have done it also (eg christian bale in the machinist) funny both are in batman.... but you get my drift.

well if you're a lame ass, I guess I am too. I've been ready for this film since Batman Begins. I went to go see i am legend 3 times for the first 7 minutes of this flick, i mean, come on.
It really is awesome though. Everytime I think about this, I get the picture in my head of the first picture of the joker in "The Long Halloween", of him sitting in that chair of his. Ima have to find that.
