Review: Scary Kids Scaring Kids - Self Titled

The release of SKSK third album was almost unnoticed to me until i seen it in the target. They have moved a long way from the After Dark EP of being a deep dark sound.Review: New Maps Of Hell

Bad Religion's new record New Maps Of Hell is amazing. The songs have so much energy && the shows to promote the new record where some of the best ive ever been to.Review: Shorebirds - S/T 7"

With a lineup featuring ex-members of Jawbreaker and Latterman, it would have taken a lot for me not to like this record. Fortunately, that isn't the case.

Consumerism is icky! To protest "the biggest shopping day (shit acquiring-fest) of the year" make sure you don't buy anything tomorrow. Or for the brave, use the crowds and swamped cashiers to your advantage and shoplift to cut into corporate profits.

This thread was posted later this year than I expected. This whole thing is stupid. And Black Friday is only the 3rd or 4th biggest shopping day of the year. The biggest day is always right before Christmas, anywhere between December 21st-23rd.

I am going out early as fuck tomorrow for some Best Buy deals. I want to try it once, to fight crowds and try and get my hands on some DVDs for like 2 bucks. why not.

Can I ask a serious question to Trashly and anybody else who's into the Buy Nothing Day thing? I should preface this by saying I'm about as left-wing/anti-capitalist as they come, I come from a family full of anarchists, socialists, and other assorted radical anti-capitalist types, and have been a committed (though not always necessarily active) Marxist since middle school, so I'm not at all pro-capitalist, pro-business, or conservative. What practical effect do you hope to accomplish through Buy Nothing Day? How does deferring a variety of businesses' profits by one day create any change? I believe that boycotts can be an effective strategy when a particular company or industry is targeted with a particular goal--for example, a few years ago, farmworkers who were attempting to unionize called for a national boycott of Taco Bell, who were the biggest purchaser from the farms they worked. This made sense to me, as one element of a strategy, one more front to put pressure on the employers to give in to the workers demand, and I participated in the boycott and urged others to do the same. It's not clear to me who Buy Nothing Day is targeting, how it is targeting them, and what the goal is. Can you explain this to me? I'm not trying to be confrontational, I'm genuinely trying to understand the purpose.

ok, wow, backlash. i apologize. i didn't realize this was a punk thing at all. i heard about it from my dad when i was in high school. anyway it's not that big of a deal to be sure, and it certainly doesn't affect the big picture, i thought it was just about putting a thought into the universe that was telling people not to buy things, which is an idea that rarely would get any exposure in the united states because it doesn't make sense to our way of life, so the fact that it's gets enough of a profile that people even have heard of it is something in itself. and personally i like the idea of shoplift-everything day way better, if your into that kind of thing. but whatever, buy cheap stuff if you want, and enjoy it.

I agree with the principals of buy nothing day, however, in all practicality, it doesn't make sense. Buy nothing MONTH might make an impact. If I weren't working this morning, I'd have gone to stand in line at Best Buy, and sell my spot in line to someone else.

I hate when people say this stuff. Everyone already pointed out why, so I won't repeat them. The people who generally take part in this probably wouldn't be out braving the crowds anyways and if there was something they wanted that was a great deal...they'd be there.

hahaha whatever .... you go steal some shit cos that will cut into profits of big corporations .... uh huh ... brilliant idea.... cos they wont turn right around and raise the price of shit for the people who actually pay for shit ..... Buy nothing day... HAH! I laugh at this bullshit. Trust me I have pleanty of "buy nothing" days throughout the year... its called having no fucking money! If there is one day out of the year where stores make shit ridiculously cheaper so that people have to spend LESS of their money then why not go buy stuff. I'm not out there because the only thing i wanted was an HDTV and i didnt see any deals sweet enough to make me want to wake up at the crack of dawn and go mess with all those people. If I did see a deal that I liked though you better believe that I woulda went out there and dropped the loot for a tv. this shit works about as well as that " don't buy gas today " bullshit.
