Review: Scary Kids Scaring Kids - Self Titled

The release of SKSK third album was almost unnoticed to me until i seen it in the target. They have moved a long way from the After Dark EP of being a deep dark sound.

Review: New Maps Of Hell

Bad Religion's new record New Maps Of Hell is amazing. The songs have so much energy && the shows to promote the new record where some of the best ive ever been to.

Review: Shorebirds - S/T 7"

With a lineup featuring ex-members of Jawbreaker and Latterman, it would have taken a lot for me not to like this record. Fortunately, that isn't the case.

So, we've had these two systems for a year now. What does everyone think?

Pros? Cons?

I'll chime in later as I'm about to run out for a killer deal at Toys 'R Us: Buy ANY 2 Wii games, get 1 for free!

I had the Wii for almost a year before I sold it.

It turned out to be a "party system" it was good for group situations when I stopped having friends over I pretty much stopped playing it due to it not being fun anymore. So yeah to me Wii seems like flash in the pan. I got sick of the controller and the motion crap real quick. I also got sick of there not being that many great games for it. I thought its main strong point in the year I had it was the virtual console . Which isn't really a strong point when i have all those systems.

PS3 ... there is still not enough reason for me to buy one of these. Since its release I think there has been 2 or 3 games total that I want to play for this.

I just recently bought a 360 ... its been out for a couple years now and there is just recently enough good games to make it worth buying. The cool thing is I got a Modded system and I get my games for free. Except for the ones that I play online like Halo 3. I have no complaints about the 360 other than its over abundance of FPS games ... but lately there have been great non FPS games like Conan and Assassins Creed .

That's a sweet Toys R Us deal. How long does it last?

Pros: It's the fucking WII

Cons: Not as many good games coming out frequently.

We were all right about the PS3. So far it's useless and no one is really missing out on anything by not having it.

The wii has become a staple in many households and is a draw for many people I know to get together and hang out. I'd say that makes it successful. The constant addition of new games to the virtual console makes it something worth going back to each day and although the games are tapering, I think we'll see an upsurge within the next year of games worth playing (which is actually unlike Nintendo as far as first party release trends go). I'm pleased with the system and it's something I'll be holding onto for a while.

Just let this happen.

wii

pros: Its little and cute.
it has two open usb ports that i use to charge my 360 and ps3 controllers
the good GAME it has (mario galaxy) is really fucking good. maybe one or two good games in
the next six months and i wont sell the fucker.

cons: one year, one good game.. really?? jeez.. zelda was really a letdown.
nintendos non friend list game code online bullshit. fuck that. heres my 254 digit number. play tetris
with me once.
wired nunchuk. wires are so 2005.

ps3

pros: i can play ps2 games in hd without weird ass lines on my tv.
saving ps2 games on the hard drive without buying more memory cards.
blu ray is pretty nice for sfx/cgi movies
its pretty quiet.
eye of judgment is really fun and innovative.

cons: two of the three games i have a year after launch, are launch titles (resistance and ridge racer)..
took a year, but this past month saw at least 5 AAA titles. here's to more.
no rumble - yet.
poor pc connectivity for video and music.
playstation store is kind of a joke.
no infrared sensor for universal remotes. have to buy bluetooth remote for dvd playback (yeah, you
can use the controller, but f that.)
basically its an awesome ps2 with a wireless controller. i had one of those a year ago. it was a lot cheaper.

xbox 360

pros: xbox live is the best online service for friends and downloads and community
excellent library of games.
looks nice on a shelf
awesome customer service. sony acts like their system is invincible if theres a problem, it must
be your fault. see also, cons.
best controller ever period.
awesome connectivity with windows media center.
free demos of all downloadable games.

cons: they tend to die a lot. like the day before call of duty 4 comes out. but they get fixed for free now because ms manned up and said they fucked up. good for them. i hope my returned system is a new one.
it can't do your laundry or clean your house.

basically if wii and ps3 came out NOW, they would be sweet. waiting a year kinda put a bad taste in my mouth as far as my perception of them. 360 was mind blowing from the door. wii and ps3 have had a year of mediocre ports of games that were better 2 years ago on 360, and that just hasn't done it for me. links crossbow training looks great. umbrella chronicles... yes. ps3 now has ratchet, uncharted, folklore.. if the systems launched with the lineups they have now, it would be an incredible christmas season. i've always judged systems on their exclusive games, and even though ps3 and wii are stepping up, the ONLY ON XBOX label is far more prevalent, and seems to mean a lot more these days. mass effect alone is going to move systems. alan wake. anything from rare. blue dragon. soul calibur 4, lost odyssey, too human. eternal sonata. halo. they have the best ip's and thats all there is to it. i don't see the wii even with better games getting beyond gimmick/fad status. ps3... it could get better over time, but its going to take a lot.

I've yet to make it to Toysrus. I'm not sure if I feel like spending the money. I really want Resident Evil Umbrella (ella, ella, ella) Chronicles and Trauma Center and Zak & Wiki, but I've been spending a ton of $$$ lately.

Anyways...

I've been very pleased with the Wil. It's everything I thought it would be in its first year. A lot of folks complain about the lack of games, but I think it had more and better games in its initial run than the XBOX 360 did. Plus the trio of Zelda-Metroid-Mario all came out within a year and all fantastic games. Those three will probably go down as classics in the genres as well as catalog. I think Super Mario Galaxy has the potential to be one of the greatest games ever (and I'm only a quarter of the way through it). Metroid taught us that first person shooters can be done on a console and it can be done right. There's a lot more to come from the Wii and I like what it has given us. Entering at the $250 price point and blowing the competition out of the water (they're manufacturing 1.8 million consoles per month) it will give us consumers a break in the future because Microsoft and Sony will have to come up with better strategies if they wish to stay afloat. The Wii's story has only just begun, it'll be an interesting year for Nintendo.

PS3, meh. I was always a Sony guy when it came to electronics, but their video game systems have always passed right by me. I had a chance to play the Playstation long before anyone else and that was a big deal to an adolescent kid. However, I never bought one until late in the game. I've never owned a PS2 and can count the games I've played on one on my hands. I think Sony was too early to usher in the BluRay drive -- it's too early for HD-movies in my opinion. Sony's has made a lot of mistakes leading up to and after the PS3 launch. They're getting back on the right track, but where are the games? There is not a single exclusive game on that console that I am dying to own. Well, sans Fl0w, but it's a downloadable game. I'm sure the PS3 will pick up steam, but is it going to be too little too late?

I'm thinking about selling my PS3 and getting another 360. The exclusives aren't there (well, Metal Gear Solid 4, but that'll hit the 360 eventually), save for Ratchet and Clank, all of the games I've bought have been released on the 360. And the 360 controller is tons better than the SIXAXIS.

Plus, like TJ said, it's really easy to mod a 360 and download all your games.

I'm thinkin of getting a Wii in the next couple weeks ... I've never played it before. I've been pretty loyal to Xbox360.
